Several cyclists gathered around David Rodriguez just before leaving his Sunset Avenue front yard Monday. With bowed heads, they listened as Rodriguez said a quiet prayer not only for their friend Israel "Dallas" Torres, who was hit by a car on the Jefferson Viaduct on Jan. 14., but also asking for God's protection as they rode through the same Oak Cliff streets that proved so dangerous for their fellow cyclist.
