  • Chamber Plans ‘Discover Oak Cliff’ Infomercial

The Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce is looking for businesses that are willing to pony up $1,000, $1,800, or $2,500 to be featured in Discover Oak Cliff, a 30-minute show that will be featured on KPXD-TV. (That’s Channel 68 over the air, Channel 26 on cable.) The email solicitation that went out recently said the show will air twice “on a Tuesday morning” at 10 a.m. When I emailed the chamber’s Sylvia Davila to ask if she had any particular Tuesday in mind, she said it all depends on how soon they can sell eight or nine sponsorships. So, who’s interested? And more importantly, who is watching TV at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday?

  • We Are 1976 Coming to Bishop Arts

According to Facebook, the arts/novelty/awesome ish shop on Henderson is coming to the spot formerly housing Make/Made.

Not sure of any timeline, or if they’re shutting down the Henderson shop. As someone who’s an east-of-Trinity resident, that would not sit well with me.

  • Manicure Machines are Worth Stealing, Apparently

Well, here’s a theft trend I’ve never noticed before. Two Jefferson Boulevard nail salons got hit last week, and a car burglary had ties to the manicure biz, too.

    There’s this, from the blotter.

Between 7 p.m. April 17 and 11 a.m. April 18, a burglar broke the breaker box outside KD Nail in the 800 block of West Jefferson Boulevard, kicked in the back door, and stole $1,000 cash and five manicure machines with a combined value of $2,000.

    Then this.

At 11 a.m. April 18, a thief stole $100 from a drawer at BB Nails in the 200 block of West Jefferson Boulevard.

And finally this — which seems coincidental, but it’s still odd to see. A UP200 drill is another nail/manicure tool.

Between 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. April 22, a thief broke into a 2006 Toyota in the 200 block of Sunset Avenue and stole a $500 UP200 drill and accessory set and a $100 leather backpack.

(Cue jokes about nailing a quick-handed thief.)

  • Conservation League To Pull Neighborhoods Together

If you consider yourself a lover of all things Oak Cliff, you need to be at the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League’s annual symposium this Saturday at the Turner House (401 N. Rosemont), from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Not only is it about brining 30-plus OC neighborhoods together, it’s about creating a “community conversation,” said Sherry Peel, the League’s vice president of neighborhoods.

The OOCCL president Phil Leven will kick off the symposium with a brief address, followed by Councilwoman Delia Jasso and Councilman Scott Griggs, who will both discuss Mayor Rawling’s “Grow South District” initiative and about building strong neighborhood associations in their respective districts. Then…

  • County Commissioners to Honor Randall White

I’ve just received word that Stevens Park Estates resident Randall White will be honored by the Dallas County Commissioners Court tomorrow morning for his work in creating the Bridge-o-Rama festival, which celebrated the opening of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. White, who is chairman of the West Dallas Chamber of Commerce, will be presented with a formal resolution by Commissioner Elba Garcia at 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, don’t forget that the West Dallas Chamber is hosting a forum tonight featuring Garcia’s husband, Domingo, and his 10 competitors in the Democratic primary for the 33rd Congressional District. The fun begins at 5:30 at Salon Las Americas.

  • Green Fees at Stevens Park Going Up?

A spectacular view of downtown Dallas from Stevens Park. (Staff photo: Chris McGathey)

The Dallas Park and Recreation Board has an item on its agenda for tomorrow’s meeting that proposes raising specified golf course green fees and cart fees at all six City of Dallas golf courses, which includes Stevens Park.

Nobody I spoke to at Stevens Park was sure exactly how much rates might go up if the item passes. These are the current rates.

  • Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge’s Impact on Dallas?

Hmm…will the bridge have a significant impact on our city? You may have your own opinions on the matter, but Press Club of Dallas wants to give you a new look at the bridge’s far-reaching effects.

  • Planning a Quinceañera (or Know Someone Who is)?

Quinceanera boutique La Glitter is one of about 20 dress shops on Jefferson Boulevard. (Staff photo: Rick Lopez)

Know a Sunset or Adamson student who’s planning or recently had her quinceañera?

If so, drop Rick Lopez a line at rick.lopez@peoplenewspapers.com. We’re working on a colorful, photo-heavy story about Jefferson Boulevard’s many quince shops, and hope to include local girls’ thoughts and perspective.

    Many thanks!
