Collared/Tagged Male Rottweiler Found at Zang Boulevard and Pratt Street
This comes from the Winnetka North Neighborhood Association.
If you are missing your black/brown, male rottweiler, please call Lyn Duerson (606 Mayrant Drive) at 972-743-2413.
Says Lyn:
While I was on my way to work this morning I spotted a rottweiler with a collar and tag in the field at the corner of Zang Boulevard and Pratt Street. He was about 20 yards from two stray, light brown pit bulls. I was able to get him to come to me, but because I did not have my glasses on I could not call the number on the tag. The dog and I hung out on the curb until a nice woman stopped and read the number off so I could call the vet and report the rabies number. The vet is Dr. Knowles in Arlington, but the tag does not include the name of the dog.
I have been calling the number on the tag all morning long and no one is picking up. I have left two messages.
Thanks.

Runner Seriously Injured Sept. 15; Neighbor Seeks Info
A worried neighbor sends the following, about a woman she suspects is from Kessler Park:
There was a female runner [on Sept. 15] who was severely injured on the northwest corner of Winnetka Avenue and Stewart Drive. I came upon the scene as I was running, shortly after the accident occurred. There were about five of us who stayed with her until the paramedics arrived.
She had no ID or other means of identification. I am obsessed with knowing that she is OK and that her family was able to be with her as soon as possible.
Any tips or thoughts?
I (Georgia Fisher, here) should note that the email above arrived on Sept. 16; I was away on vacation— and I’m so sorry for the delayed post. The sender had this to add today:
I just want to know that she survived and is recovering. I would love to reach out to her and her family if they need help.
I’ve been in the OC about 1.5 years and I love the family feeling that we have in this community. We all watch out for each other and, to me, we have a wounded soldier that might need additional support from the community.
She is approximately late 40s, 5’7″ to 5’8″, 140 to 150 lbs, with short, spiky blonde hair, and a natural tan with sock lines (which tells me that she runs a lot or works or plays outdoors). She had on a yellow t-shirt, gray running shorts and white tennis shoes. The left side of her face was severely injured and at least one or more of her teeth were knocked out upon injury.
She was completely unconscious when I arrived upon the scene. My first assumption was that she had been hit by a car based on the severity of her injuries. However, an eyewitness said she tripped on the curb and fell onto the pavement. I run several times a week and think that I have seen her before with another lady who might be her partner. None of us who were with her at the scene of the accident knew her name. [Winnetka Heights resident] Rob Romano did some research, and we have concluded that she was most likely admitted to Parkland.
That is the extent of my knowledge. I just want to know that she’s OK and if there’s anything we can do for her.

Auction Benefits Cliff Temple Youth Programs
Cliff Temple Baptist Church’s annual auction is just around the corner on Sunday.
The rundown:
What: Auction and catered barbecue to benefit Cliff Temple Baptist’s youth ministry program
When and where: 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 3; Cliff Temple Baptist Church (125 Sunset Ave.); Silent-auction bidding is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., and and goes until 1:30 p.m. with a break during church service. The barbecue luncheon starts at noon.
Cost:$7 for a hot plate from Rudy’s
Says Kenny Chesier, minister to students:
The majority of our students are from low-income homes around our church; therefore, we appreciate any assistance you can give us to make this trip a reality. All proceeds from our sale will help defray travel expenses as we journey to Horn Creek, Colorado, located above the quaint western town of Westcliffe, just 90 miles southwest of Colorado Springs (for more information, go to www.horncreek.org). It will be an exciting time of spiritual renewal during the week of June 18-24, 2011 as we travel to Horn Creek. While there our group will become more aware of God’s presence in their lives through his creation and goodness. However, this will be impossible without your assistance.
The cost per student to go is $390 per person. We estimate that 40 students will be going this June. As you can imagine, this is quite expensive for most young people. Without help, most of our youth will not be able to attend. We are counting on the proceeds of this silent auction and we need your help to get there.

The Rundown: Jefferson Median Tree Planting
Great article this week on the Jefferson median tree planting! For those who want to help plant tomorrow (Saturday, March 12), the trees will be arriving between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Bring shovels and gloves. The holes are being drilled (it’s very rocky there) today so we just need to carefully lower the trees into the holes, straighten them, and fill back in.
Last time we were done in two and 1/2 hours. This time could be faster if we have more people. If you can only come for an hour, we will still take you! Invest an hour or two in something that will last 70 years. Last time a couple families bought small children to watch the planting so they would remember it when they (both the kids and the trees) are full grown. I think that is awesome! So even if you’re not able-bodied enough to help plant, please come out anyway to take pictures, give moral support to the volunteers, and just CELEBRATE THE TREES.
