DMN reported they don’t know what caused the crash, but that it shut down all northbound lanes and two southbound lanes of the highway.

Update: DPD has released a statement. Make the jump:

Today, at approximately 12:15 pm, Dallas Police motorcycle officers Wayne Nichols, #4803 and Michael Keating, #5038, were travelling side by side in the northbound lane of 1000 South RL Thornton Freeway.  A motorist driving a Toyota Camry was also travelling northbound in an adjacent lane as the officers and took evasive action to avoid colliding into a vehicle that was suddenly braking.  The Camry struck one of the officers forcing him into the other officer.  Both officers went down.  Officer Nichols was transported to Methodist Central Hospital while Officer Keating was transported to Baylor Hospital.  Both officers appear to have non life threatening injuries.  The citizen driving the Camry was transported to an area hospital for precautionary reasons.  Her injuries were not life threatening.
