What’s Cookin’ in the Cliff This Weekend?
If you ate yourself into a food coma yesterday, the last thing on your mind is probably going out. But is there really a better way to work off those extra pounds than by getting up off the couch and moving? The holidays are officially here, so step away from the leftovers and let one of the following events kickstart the season.
Nothing says “the holidays are here” like a cocktail or three, so head to Bar Belmont tonight at 7 p.m. to sip a few while listening to local rock/roots artist Amber Farris perform.
If you still haven’t seen Skyfall yet (wait, how has anyone not seen Skyfall yet?!?) the Texas Theatre’s got you covered. With showtimes at 7 and 10 p.m. tonight, 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, and 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, you’ve got no excuse not to see it this weekend.
Hunter Hendrickson is known around the local music scene as one of Dallas’ top guitarists, and once you listen to him play, you’ll understand why. Catch him with Peter Black, whose voice in live performance is “redolent of red wine, blackberries, and honey,” or so says his website. They’ll be performing at the Kessler tonight at 8 p.m., along with soul/pop artist Kirk Thurmond (I went to high school with him, he’s good !) and John Lefler, he of Dashboard Confessional fame.
Originally from Dallas, alternative folk singer Michelle Shocked has taken her music all over the world. She’s come back to her roots for a Dallas show, Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Kessler Theater. Ever-popular Kessler and Booker T. alum Tiger Darrow will also perform.
The Wood Brothers could be my favorite sibling band since The Avett Brothers. If you love heartfelt Americana-Folk music, check them out Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Kessler.
