DISD Gets New Chief of Staff

DISD Superintendent Mike Miles has named a new chief of staff: Leonardo Caballero, a Navy veteran who’s until now held a comparable position at Beaumont’s Lamar University. Caballero will supervise Miles’ six-member cabinet, and begin to tackle a 32-item list of problem areas the supe has outlined for the District.

He comes with heavy praise from his former boss, Lamar president James Simmons, who called Caballero a “go-to” guy in tough situations. “Lamar University has been very fortunate to have benefitted from Leonardo’s strong work ethic, clear thinking, and dedication to our institution,” Simmons said in a press release Monday.”I give him my highest recommendation and have no doubt that he will succeed in his future endeavors.”

DISD’s hunt continues for a new CFO and chief technology officer.
