What’s Cookin’ in The Cliff This Weekend?

Saturday morning is shaping up to be the greenest few hours outside of Earth Day. At 9 a.m., city staffers will observe Arbor Day by passing out free trees to Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association members at the corner of Clinton and Jefferson. Available varieties will include elms, red oaks, live oaks, and red buds. The volunteers from Winnetka Heights and city employees will then be organized into teams, which will plant the trees in area parkways.

At the same time, Twelve Hills Nature Center will host Andrea Bithell and Jamie Laws, who will teach you how to plant an organic flower bed and lead you on a tour of the center’s native plants. RSVPs are requested via marcieh@gmail.com.

The Texas Theatre and the Dallas Municipal Archives will mark Home Movie Day from 4 to 7 on Saturday afternoon. Preservation specialists will explain why transferring films to video or digital media does not mean they’ll last forever.

Perhaps some new home movies will be shot at a pair of neighborhood get-togethers scheduled for Saturday evening: the Fall Wander in Wynnewood North and Oktoberfest in Kessler Plaza.
