R.I.P., Alex Burton

Via his Dallas Morning News obituary (subscription required), I just learned of the death of longtime Kessler Park resident Alex Burton, a broadcasting legend.

Update: The Morning News put the obituary behind the paywall, but it also posted the entire thing on one of its blogs. Brilliant.

I also just learned of longtime TV, radio broadcaster Alex Burton’s death. I also volunteer at Reading Radio Resource as Alex did. He and I attended Arlington State college in 1966 and were in the same Beginning German Class, 1141-007. He and I met 30 years later at a Kidd Springs Arts and Crafts Show, neither one of us recognized the other and who would after 30 years. We simply acknowledged each other’s existence and went on with our business.
He and I shared a common background in broadcasting. I worked for the Public Information Office and American Forces Korean Network(AFKN), Radio Tomahawk while I was in the US Army. I worked as a news reporter and news director for several radio stations in North Carolina.
I currently do a 30 minute news cast at Reading Radio Resource,North Texas Radio for the Blind. Bottom line, rest in peace Alex Burton.
