Dallas Police employees donated more than 120 pairs of brand new shoes to a local charity organization that will distribute the shoes to needy kids in the Dallas area.
The campaign started when Dallas officers heard that Norma’s Café in Oak Cliff needed new shoes to assist a local charity. The Dallas Community Police Awards Committee, a group of local business leaders, helped spearhead the event. On August 17, 2012, the department began collecting shoes from sworn and civilian employees who purchased brand new shoes of all sizes to support Norma’s Café.
Employees were able to bring excitement to the Cool Shoes for School campaign by waging a friendly competition between several DPD divisions to encourage the gift of giving. Employees were awarded prizes and meals for their participation.
A press conference will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters in the Donald A. Stafford Media Conference Room.
