Party in Winnetka Heights to Benefit Abused Dog

Chances are, you’ve already heard the sadistic, heart-wrenching tale of Pappy — yet another abused dog to make headlines recently in Oak Cliff.

The news made me queasy and sad and (I’ll admit) unproductively angry. But Winnetka Heights resident Becky Bales, who home-schools her four children, actually used it as a teaching tool.

“We read the DMN article together,” she told me in an email, “so that I could warn them about how important it is we take good care of our dog who likes to run. It turned into wanting to know more about Pappy and the organization that took him in.”

Now the family’s little learning group, dubbed the Bales’ School of Thought, has hatched a plan: The Pappy Party. Cheers to the 9-year-old who came up with this:

Thank you, Mrs. Bales, for raising kind and compassionate children. Angie Manriquez, the “Fairy Dogmother of Dallas” was part of the rescue party that got Pappy to safety. http://www.angiesfriends.org Thank you for helping this poor dog – may Karma soon catch up with the cretins that hurt him.
