What’s Cookin’ In The Cliff This Weekend?

There will be some mega-fun taking place at Kessler Park United Methodist Church on Saturday with Venture Crew 5’s second annual “Scout-A-Palooza.” The event kicks off at 9 a.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Get ready for ultimate Frisbee, supersoaker fights, zipline rides, caveman golf, tomahawk throwing — to name a few of the fun-filled activities scheduled. There will also be a delish barbecue dinner served, replete with old-fashioned cobbler. Members and leaders of Venture Crew 5 will be on hand to answer questions and share stories about their recent adventures.

The Oak Cliff Cultural Center will be hosting its second-year anniversary party on Saturday, beginning at noon. Get a glimpse of what the cultural club has been doing for the last two years — plus enjoy ballet folklorico, Aztec dancers, musical performances, and a food truck for yummy eats.

Lookin’ for a truly psychedelic experience? Texas Theatre will be hosting a “Slip Inside This House” psych party freak-out, featuring DJs Gabe, Travis, and Fred on Saturday at 10 p.m. Head to the Theatre early, and you can catch The Color Wheel at 7 p.m. or Possession at 9 p.m. On Friday night, Texas Theatre is debuting its new monthly ladies’ night party — Ladies Stay Crazy Dance Party. Straight from the Theatre’s proverbial mouth: “Come dressed in your shiniest sequins, your shortest skirts, fanciest feathers, highest heels, and most colorful makeup. And we’re not just talking to the girls here, guys! This is the night to let your hair down, have a drink or three, and destroy the dance floor.” This Friday, expect DJs Mama Dew and Idayasree. And apparently there are drink specials for the classy and not-so-classy ladies all night long.

This weekend’s music scene is also jam-packed with awesome acts. Friday night, Devon Leigh is playing at Bar Belmont at 8; The Wagoneers with Grant Jones & The Pistol Grip Lassos are performing at the Kessler at 8:30 p.m.; and Tyla Taylor will sing at Eno’s at 9 p.m. On Saturday night, Civil Twilight, Morning Parade, and Voxhaul Broadcast will perform at the Kessler at 8:30; and Salim Nourallah and The Travoltas will play at The Foundry at 9 p.m.
