Möbius Bench Begins To Take Its Shape

Last week, when I caught up with Erik Glissman, one half of the Möbius Bench piece along with Nicole Horn, he had just completed the skeleton for the bench — over 40 hours of bending, tweaking, and welding steel tubing.

Glissman said the bench was turning out as they had imagined it only that the scale was a little bigger than they figured. At 9 feet tall, 10 feet wide, and almost 5 feet deep, the huge swooping loop made for some minor complications such as finding reclaimed fence boards long enough to cover the length of the top.

They recently posted this photo of the reclaimed materials they’re using like shingles to skin the outside. A camera is capturing the progress and Glissman plans to make a stop motion.

The two plan to have the bench at its spot in front of Chicken Scratch soon.
