A super-sized congratulations is in order for the Kidd Springs Sailfish swim team! Head coach Becky Moffett reported that 24 kids from the team will be competing in the city-wide championship meet at the Lake Highlands Recreation Center’s pool this Saturday at 9 a.m. That’s almost half the team.

If you missed our July 27 article on the Sailfish, this is without a doubt, the lil’ team that could. Last summer, the swim team had two members. This year, they have almost 50 swimmers, ranging from 5 to 14 years old. Moffett, recognizing the opportunity to bring a group of North Oak Cliff kids together, worked her magic, publicizing the swim team through the Rosemont Early Childhood PTA and reaching out to neighbors, friends, and other volunteers in the community.

Moffett said she’s proud of how far her kids have come and the success they’ve achieved, and she’s thrilled about the championship meet. “Many of these kids have gone from never competing on a swim team to winning events at the meets,” she said. “Their improvement has grown exponentially over the course of the season.”

Best of luck to the Sailfish on Saturday, and we’ll keep you posted on the results!
