Semi-Mysterious Caller Tells of Civil Twilight Concert

So when a mass press release comes through from out of state (which actually happens a lot) they’re often just zanily bad, with misspelled subject lines and strange subjects in the first place. I recently got one that was touting men’s-only hair dye as a Father’s Day gift to combat the signs of aging, i.e. gray hair caused by parenting stress that’s inherently your fault. Brad once saved a fax about two squirrel friends learning “important life lessons” — probably for a children’s book, but I can’t guarantee as much. You get the idea.

Anyway, when someone called from a New York number yesterday, my caller ID displayed the following words: BIG MACHINE ME.

I doubted it’d have a thing in the world to do with Oak Cliff. But I answered anyway, hoping for an oversized-robot version of myself on the other line.

Turns out the caller was a very nice PR person — one Chris Nicoletti — who wanted to talk about an incoming band, Civil Twilight. They’re pretty famous, they recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and guess what? They’re coming to the Kessler Theater on Aug. 18.

“It’s Civil Twilight, like the books,” said Nicoletti, who sounded like he might be an old friend of the band, which hails from South Africa. “They’re great, great guys — and they make really great music. So hopefully people can come out.”
