La Grange Dishes Out Free Samples Today

While we announced the impending opening of La Grange — the Deep Ellum-spawned shaved ice on wheels — back in late June, the snow-cone trailer officially opened for business on July 3 and business has been booming ever since.

Today, through 8 this evening, the lil’ ice shop will be dishing out free samples of pretty much any flavor you could dream up — birthday cake, wedding cake, red velvet cake, coconut — not to mention their “adult” flavors, including “Cherry Bomb,” made with cherry syrup, Rose’s lime juice, and Absolut Citron vodka and “The Doctor Pepper,” with root beer syrup and Jameson Irish Whiskey.

And, as my fellow blogger Brad Pearson pointed out, the booze is actually free! Because acquiring a liquor license is so expensive and cumbersome, the liquor in the cones is free — for adults only, that is.

Stephanie Schumacher, an Oak Cliffer for life, said their most popular ice of late as been the “Double Wide” — wedding cake, root beer, and cherry syrup.

“We’ve been doing great,” Shumacher said. “I love this neighborhood, and the neighborhood seems to love us being here.”

The trailer is located in the Dallas West Trailer Park, right off of Fort Worth Avenue. Hours are noon to 9 p.m., but Shumacher said the line is usually so long at 9, they stay open later.
