It was a good morning for kiddos in need in OC. A brand-new, 12-room MyChildren’s clinic officially opened its doors this morning at 3434 W. Illinois Ave., after a ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted by Trent Smith, president of MyChildren’s and senior vice president of Children’s Medical Center, and City Councilwoman Delia Jasso.
MyChildren’s clinics are located in neighborhoods where few options exist for families who depend on Medicaid and the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program. These clinics provide a critical medical home for thousands of children — leading to better, earlier care.
“The opening of MyChildren’s Pediatric Practice is a great thing for this community, because thousands of Oak Cliff families will now have a clinic within our neighborhood to take care of the medical needs of our children,” Jasso said. “And this isn’t just any clinic. This clinic is a satellite of Children’s Medical Center, which is the seventh largest pediatric healthcare provider in the United States and is rated as one of the best pediatric healthcare facilities and providers in our nation.”
Also on the scene this morning were Dr. Ray Tsai, medical director of MyChildren’s, Texas State Rep. Roberto Alonzo, and the clinic’s two primary physicians — Urmila Gulpa and Ansa Thomas.
“Many families resort to the emergency department at Children’s for low-acuity conditions such as runny noses, ear infections, or sore throats,” said Tsai. “These conditions are really better taken care of in the pediatrician’s office. By expanding our MyChildren’s locations, we will better manage these populations of patients, and we will provide the right care at the right place at the right time for thousands of kids across North Texas.”
