What’s Cookin’ In The Cliff This Weekend?

Tonight is Oak Cliff’s Oscar night (sorry minus, Oscar) with the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce’s annual gala at the downtown Sheraton Hotel, beginning at 6 p.m. This year’s theme “Oak Cliff Rocks!” will include live music by local band The Happy Campers, a seated dinner, a live and silent auction, a raffle, and a photo booth. So, slip into that sexy cocktail dress and work the red carpet for your chance to win vacations to San Miguel, Mexico, or the Virgin Islands; dinner with Mayor Mike Rawlings or Senator Royce West; iPads; flat-screen TVS and Blue-Rays…to name just a few. Register online at galaoakcliffchamber.org or call 214-943-4567.

If the red carpet is not your thing, the Twelve Hills Nature Center is hosting a Midsummer’s Night Hike, beginning at 8:45 p.m. on Fri. Celebrate one of the shortest nights of the year and enjoy soaking up the majesty of nature after dark. (However, we do recommend bug spray.)

On Sat. evening, the Kessler Plaza Neighborhood Association is hosting a wine-tasting fundraiser — sure to be blast. The wine starts flowing at 7 p.m., beginning at the home of Todd Miltner (2643 W. Tenth Street); at 8 p.m., head to the home of John Ortega (2414 Sunset Ave.); and at 9 p.m. mosey on to the home of Bill and Sylvia McMaster (2515 Wentworth Street).

On Sunday evening at 7, Tyler Street United Methodist Church is hosting Jazz Mosaic — a summer classic series, celebrating a tradition of the classical fine arts.

As for the rest of your weekend music line-up: On Friday, Loudon Wainwright III and Kristy Kruger will perform at 8:30 p.m. at the Kessler; Bird Dogs will be at Eno’s at 9 p.m.; and Chad Stockslager and Chris Holt will be playing at Bar Belmont at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Carolyn Wonderland and Betty Soo will perform at 8:30 p.m. at the Kessler and King Bucks will kick it at The Foundry at 9 p.m.

Happy Oak Cliff weekending! We hope to see you out and about.

Loudon Wainwright III has postponed his show until August 8 due to a death in his family.
