In today’s Oak Cliff People, I reported that Lida Hooe Elementary principal Yvonne Rojas was named as a finalist for DISD’s Principal of the Year. Not bad for a teacher who was born and raised here in the area and is now giving back to her community.

Rojas, an Oak Cliff product who grew up in the school district, said she was honored to receive the nomination for the award and knows that her success is only measured by her students, staff and faculty.

This is her 13th year in DISD and she will be up against three other principals in the school district for the award. The winner will be announced at an event at 4:30 p.m. at Old Parkland.

Check out this week’s Oak Cliff People to find out more about how Rojas is trying to leave a lasting impression on Oak Cliff students.

Ms. Yvonne D. Rojas, indeed is the best candidate for the Principal of the Year Award – she cares about the students, teachers, staff and parents. She is continuously coming up with ways on how to improve the campus and learning. She recently was able to get Yahoo to donate laptops, camcorders, webcams and MobiViews for all classrooms, as well as other technology equipment to share among grade levels. Ms. Rojas is an exemplary leader that is taking Lida Hooe Elementary to the next level, Dallas ISD should be proud to have a high-caliber leader as part of its administration! – Mr. Michael Del Toro (Nominating Teacher)

This is certainly a great honor for anybody. I am extremely proud of Yvonne and the achievements she, her students and her staff have accomplished. I hope the best to all the students, her staff, and her at Hooe Elementary. Keep up the good work!!! From one of your peers
