University Park Man Draws Inspiration From BAD

There’s not usually much crossover between the Park Cities and Oak Cliff issues of our paper. This is one of those rare instances.

A few weeks ago, University Park resident Jeff Brand was walking around the Bishop Arts District when he noticed something a little strange. An artist had “yarn-bombed” some of the trees in the neighborhood, wrapping their barky exteriors with warm, hand-knit tree sweaters. So he sought out the artist —K Witta— and commissioned a piece for his own yard, as a Valentine’s Day present. University Park’s Normandy Avenue has never been brighter.

Such a lovely contagion! I hope it keeps spreading. We need this kind of REAL public art everywhere.

What a beautiful and unusual tribute Jeff Brand paid to his family and neighborhood. Seeing something artistic that he liked then contacting KWitta to create something else special for his personal and community benefit! There should be more efforts to beautify this space in which we live – I know that K Witta can’t do it all but she’s making a whole hearted effort! Love it…
