In total, I probably spent four hours listening to our fair city’s Landmark Commission debate several topics to minutia so you wouldn’t have to. You’re welcome.

From all that, I’m here to say that the saga of the Alta West Davis Apartments at 1836 W. Davis St. has come to a close for now. After a few months of back-and-forth between the Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association and Good Fulton Farrell Architects/Wood Partners, a compromise was formed. And today, after a few words from WHNA president Lee Ruiz, Masterplan consultant Mark Housewright, and zoning consultant Jim Anderson, the deal became official.

In short, the redesigned Rosemont Avenue facade was approved by the Landmark Commission, and despite being verboten by Winnetka Heights’ preservation ordinance, the developer will use Hardie Plank siding throughout the structure.
