Some of you need to chill out. He is reporting on an incident that happened in the area – nothing more, nothing less. Did you really expect Oak Cliff People to go deep undercover and run an exposé? I find it completely sad that you jump to conclusions and assume he is being malice or making light of a serious situation, especially when the tone is so matter-of-fact. I think that speaks more about you than it does him. The author called for more information and was told that the victim’s condition was good. He had no reason to assume that parts of the POLICE REPORT were incorrect. Relax and enjoy your Friday! Let’s all be thankful for this man’s recovery.

Are you kidding me Dan? “Shot in Butt”? I guess shootings are so regular in Oak Cliff that it is funny to you sometimes. How about addressing why it happened? Poor lighting, lack of securtity, and a community that treats this as just another shooting (only this time it was in the butt – hee hee). Oak Cliff has a chance of seperating itself from the stigma attached to South Dallas. You need to be more vigilant and take crime prevention to the extreme in your area. All it takes is a few instances and businesses start to close their doors. All that Oak Cliff has been striving for can be wiped out overnight. Your headline does not reflect the seriousness of the event – not only to the victim but to an area with some major hurdles ahead of itself. Until Oak Cliff realizes this it will be “South Dallas”. Heip them out.

Gentlemen, you may dispute the use of the words “bar” and “butt,” but I wasn’t there. All I can do is base my blog post on what the police reported. Here is their report:

COMP STATED THAT HE PARKED HIS VEHICLE AT 400 N MADISON AVE AND WAS MEETING FRIENDS AT A NEARBY BAR. WHEN COMP EXITED HIS VEHICLE, HE WAS APPROACHED BY A MASKED SUSP. SUSP PRODUCED A GUN AND DEMANDED COMP’S WALLET. COMP BEGAN TO RUN. COMP HEARD SUSP SAY “[expletive] YOU” JUST BEFORE SUSP SHOT COMP. COMP WAS SHOT ON THE BUTTOCKS AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO METHODIST HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION. RO’S AND PES SEARCHED THE AREA BUT DID NOT LOCATE A BULLET CASE. PES PHOTOGRAPHED THE SCENE. COMP’S VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DALLAS CITY POUND. COMP WAS ISSUED CASE NUMBER AND AUTO POUND INFO. DET AHRENS #8193 WAS NOTIFIED. NO WITNESS INFO.

Dan,

For a ‘managing editor’ I’d expect you to be more diligent with getting the facts straight and presenting them accurately. BillyPilgrim is right, the Victim was headed to dinner with friends at 8 pm on a Friday night, something we all do many times a year. In the split second he had to think about his options, he decided that there was no guarantee that he wouldn’t be shot if he handed over his wallet. Incidentally a co-worker of the Victim’s was shot after being robbed.

Styling your blurb as ‘shot in butt’ you are really minimizing the severity of the danger present in the main parking lot of the Bishop Arts District. You are also really understating the seriousness of the Victim’s injuries.

I hope your future blurbs will meet a bit higher standard of accuracy.

I know the guy who was shot. He wasn’t going to a bar. He was on his way to Eno’s Pizza.

Also, he was shot in the lower back–not the butt–from a distance of about 20 feet. The bullet perforated several internal organs and lodged in his abdomen. Very serious situation that is somewhat diminished by the incorrect description “shot in the butt”.
