(Almost) Free Food Alert: Eat at Norma’s For $1.79

A tired bag of chips or misshapen hot dog is a steal at $1.79,  if you ask me. But a full plate of Southern fare for $1.79? Hey, that borders on deranged.

In any case, you can thank the folks at Norma’s Cafe for this deal today in honor of the Davis Street diner’s 55th anniversary.

The rundown: Visit either location (one’s in North Dallas), forgive the line, and come hungry, says restaurant owner Ed Murph. Then take your pick of meatloaf, chicken-fried steak, or chicken and dressing, all served with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy.

The doors open at 10 a.m. And you’d better believe I’ll race you.

There’s still a line out the door. That’s why I’m writing this from a booth at Hunky’s.
