Lockhart Smokehouse Allows Forks – For a Good Cause
If you weren’t aware, this lone-star restaurant review prompted “Fork Leslie Brenner Day” last month at Lockhart Smokehouse — a nose-thumbing retort on the part of owners Jeff Bergus and Tim McLaughlin, and one that let diners use something otherwise barred from the premises: standard silverware.
Fork Leslie Brenner Day, which included a smoked-bologna menu option, was handled “in a sixth-grade manner” Bergus now admits with a chuckle. But it earned him so much notoriety that customers showed up en masse. A few asked if he had a secret marketing team. And eventually, Bergus decided the demand for forks at his Davis Street barbecue joint could be used for the greater good: a Kessler School fundraiser.
