Turner House Seeks Antiques
Turner House may be all decked out for the holidays, but it still has a wish list, so to speak, and it’s one that doesn’t include an iPad, Uggs, or other newfangled baubles.Suggested donations from the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts, which operates out of the historic building:
Area rugs, antique or Oriental style
Antique furniture, preferably from 1900 to 1930, including a hunt table or small entry table; small cabinets for bathrooms; plant stand or magazine stand; and a bureau or low chest of drawers
Need someone to take such items off your hands? E-mail info@turnerhouse.org.

Santa’s Minions Hit the Sauce as Christmas Nears
Every time I get homesick for South Austin, South Oak Cliff (my current home) rears its friendly head and I decide I’ll probably never leave.
Behold: Santa(s)/elves(?) at rest while flamingos and toads pull a sleigh stuffed with Crown Royal bags. The home attached to this Crestwood Drive lawn also features a sign that reads “Hippies use backdoor.”
Here’s a closeup of the sleigh, in case you can’t make out details above.
Now try to tell me that toad doesn’t have a cute face.

What Happened to the North Cliff Neighborhood Association?
On our facebook page, Jessica Henson asks:
Why doesn’t the North Cliff Conservation District have a Home Owners Association (HOA)? It looks like we may have had a strong HOA in the past, but I haven’t heard much about it since I moved into the neighborhood almost 4 years ago. Anyone??
I checked in on the organization’s neighborhood website, which hasn’t been updated in a couple of years. Any ideas what might have happened, people?

Jamey Boozer Has Outdone Himself (Again)
Jamey Boozer owns 1603 S. Montreal Ave., which can probably be seen from space at this time of year. Even after several setbacks in 2009 — rainstorms shorting boards, vandals trying to make off with his lights — Boozer has put up an even more stunning display this year, one that includes LED snow simulation and his iconic “Christmas in the OC” sign.
Boozer’s looking for a special nonprofit to collect donations for as people admire his work. He’s just about settled on the SPCA of Texas, and light admirers can bring a little scratch or in-kind donations for the organization if the Christmas spirit moves them.
See more light displays with write-ups from Dave Conard in this week’s Oak Cliff People.

Chilly Dogs? Go to Green Pet.
I am a dog lover. Actually, I’m one of those dog lovers that dresses her dogs. My little chihuahua mix, Fitzgerald, shakes like Shakira when the temperature drops, so we usually put a little sweater on him. It’s really the cutest thing. But what about when it gets really cold? Puppies still need to go on walks, you know. That’s where Green Pet comes in. The all-natural pet store has thermal dog jackets and hoodies for puppies in stock. Cute and cozy? Doesn’t get much better than that.

Jefferson Blvd. Auto Shop Burns
A&R Automotive at 1924 W. Jefferson seems to have been gutted by fire this morning (I read as much on the Advocate blog, which in turn links to details from Channel 4). Were any readers around to see this?

For Those Missing A Dog…
From the ever-helpful Catherine Walker, our tracker of lost canines:
Walker wrote in an e-mail Monday a white, medium-to-large-sized female dog was found near Kiest Park. The dog is friendly and about a year old, Walker wrote.
The owner should e-mail Juliet Nations (julietnations@hotmail.com) about the dog, and provide proof of ownership.
Another dog escaped a home invasion in the 400 block of North Edgefield Avenue Monday, Walker wrote.
The escapee was a seven-year-old female Cocker Spaniel named Lily, who is mahogany brown and has a full tail. Those with information on Lily should call 214-208-6882.
