Neumann Recommends Against Parks at Wynnewood Redevelopment

I just got an e-mail from Lynn Sulander, president of the Wynnewood North Neighborhood Association, saying that City Councilman Dave Neumann informed her of his decision to vote against Bank of America’s Parks at Wynnewood redevelopment project. It was at an April 7 Wynnewood North Task Force meeting that Neumann told me he hadn’t yet made up his mind on the project, but said he’d been communicating with Sulander and other neighborhood leaders since the issue first came across his desk.

While I work to get on the horn with Neumann and confirm this news, I’ll let Sulander’s words do the talking:

Dave Neumann has informed me that he has made a recommendation to the Dallas Housing Commission.  Based on the absences of more information; Dave Neumann recommends not to proceed with the Parks at Wynnewood Redevelopment project.

He says the Housing Committee will take this recommendation to the City Council. Typically, the City Council will not go against the recommendation of the Council member of the affected District.  Dave says this means the project is informally – killed but the formal decision occurs at the City Council level.

Dave stated he has not had a chance to notify BoA of his decision.

Lynn

Hooray! Maybe now there is breathing room for BoA to sit down with both the Neighborhood Associations and the residents at the Parks at Wynnewood to put together a plan that all can live with. As one resident said, BoA went about this backwards, it submitted the plan to the state and then came to the neighbors instead of first meeting with the neighbors to get their input.

Interesting that he has not supported any housing for people of modest means except for Incap’s second Low Income Housing development. What is up with that? So far the only development in the Incap development is Low Income Housing.
