DISD School Board Candidate Says He’s Going to Fight For Oak Cliff Christian Church if Elected
DISD District 7 School Board Candidate Eric Cowan was kind enough to share his stance on the potential demolition of Oak Cliff Christian Church in advance of this evening’s League of Women Voters candidate forum.
Cowan said if elected, he would attempt to save the church from being demolished if the August deadline for its sale by the Oak Cliff Conservation League passes with no deal.
“I don’t want the church to be torn down,” Cowan said referring to DISD’s plans for a new Adamson High School that desginate the plot of land the church is sitting on as athletic fields. “That would be my first option, to find an alternative use for it with the new school … whether it’s as a science building or a gymnasium or a fine arts building.”
Cowan said he still thinks the best option is to find a buyer between now and August.
“We spent 1.2 million for it and we have nothing to show other than a gutted building,” Cowan said.
