it's not to say that alcohol causes bullets to fly-but alcohol does create drunkeness. Drunkeness causes repressed anger to surface (in some people) that may or may not lead to violence that can escalate in people who are in possesion, legally or not, of a hand gun which will cause bullets to fly in whatever direction. We have to think of what the majority is in OC and it's not people who want wine at TT. (think people, think)I understand that the newcomers and some old residents want change in OC to make it a better place, but really, selling wine and beer should be the LAST step in doing so. We should start with fixing up the community instead of running it down with (b.s.) alcohol stores.

In my defense, Josh, did not post everything I said. I am FOR alcohol sales by restaurants without the use of a Unicard as this means OC entrepreneurs get to keep more of their money and do more good with it in our community.

I did thoroughly research the correlation of alcohol sales/crime as well as the crime rate in my zip code (75224) vs. other areas. See link below for very interesting study by Univ. of Indiana on the topic:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/02/100221200902.htm

After reading several actual scientific studies on the subject, I came to the conclusion that I'd rather drive 10 minutes for my alcohol. I would love to be able to buy alcohol at Tom Thumb, but don't want it sold at the convenient store down the street where the customers are already shady. Gunshots are a regular thing at night where I live. If there is anything I can do to prevent the likelihood of one of those bullets coming through a window and into one of my daughters, I'm for it. Sorry guys.

People need to grow up. Alcohol doesn't cause crime. I'm a college student from Oak Cliff and I'm a member of a fraternity. The city where I go to school is wet, and there isn't a high crime rate here. There is even a liquor store store not even five minutes away from two local schools, and it is not making the community corrupt. If OC does become wet it will bring revenue for restraunts and bussiness in the area, cause locals will stay in the area and spend their money rather than go downtown or to another city.

Saying local sales of alcohol will increase crime is nonsense and has proven incorrect. Of the major areas around Dallas that have recently allowed liquor sales (The Colony, Grapevine, Addison, etc.) none of the have had an increase in crime due to allowing liquor sales.
It would be nice if people (Nicki) would research the facts before making blanket statements.

You can always count on Nicki (except I think it's Nikki) to say something against the grain.

I'd like to see you ask the people who are against the wet initiative why? Saying alcohol brings crime is generic. Why do you think that a Tom Thumb selling wine is going to cause you problems?
