There’s a Bishop Ave streetfront vacant lot between a 4-plex and grand dame old house that’s doing nothing but gathering weeds. Last summer, I vaguely recall a couple of people gardening in the private lot but not much action into the fall and winter. It’s private property but maybe someone could make some inquiries regarding the OC community gardens plan? It’d be a nice “showcase” garden location as Bishop Avenue gets a lot of visitor traffic. Lots of families and kids in the surrounding neighborhoods so plenty of people to work & benefit from a nearby garden; the only thing is I don’t think there’s a water line (?).

We’d love to check out that location and any others that the community is interested in starting. The City of Dallas will install a meter for free if one does not exist, however installing the plumbing necessary for a tap and irrigation is, of course, the property owner or steward’s.

There are unique ways that you can irrigate w/o a permanent water source. You’ll find these and other tips by joining our Yahoo Group. Go to our website and click on Membership.

    Thanks!
