Our Newspaper Needs a Slogan

When the staff of Oak Cliff People was marching in the Mardi Gras Parade, we heard a lot of people say, “We love that paper!” But one woman, who was clearly not a reader, looked at our banner and asked, “So you’re just a bunch of people from Oak Cliff?”

So, we obviously need to add a slogan to our banner. And we need one at the top of this website. Here are a few we’ve been batting around:

  • Revealing the Right Side of the River
  • The Weekly Beat of the OC
  • The ABCs of the OC
  • The Ins and Outs of the OC

Do any of these do anything for you? Do you have a better idea? If we go with a suggestion that comes from a reader, we’ll come up with some sort of semi-fabulous prize.

Good Afternoon, I am from the Oak Cliff area, grew up here. Lived close to Sunset High school, but went to WH Adamson…Go Leopards !!…lol…..I have so many fantastic memories of growing up there….Keist Park, Kidd Springs…and many many more…..

Oak cliff needs a sign….like the “Hollywood” sign in LA…..I know the Perfect place …….right off of I 30 & Hampton…..from there you can see all of Downtown Dallas and beyond…..what do we need to do to get this started?? I will also be thinking of a slogan….

Original Stories from the Dallas Original

Top Stories from the Top of Dallas

The birthplace of Stevie Ray Vaughn and ” AUSTIN” has the only tribute to him, in the form of a statue. I know Oak Cliff can do one better. I would like to see a fund raiser, loads of local talent here, (maybe a concert, on-line auction, local artist from Oak Cliff, or maybe a Chili Cook Off, (Enchilada, Bake Off.) My cousins had a band, The Trinity River Bottoms Blues Band, a.k.a T.R.Bottoms and Stevie played in the band, this would a great way to honor his memory and excellent exposure for your paper and Oak Cliff talent! Family still lives here plenty of research material available and pictures as well.

If you are interested in a great story.. Sweet200 is a salon in N Oak Cliff that is doing their part to help with the oil spill. We collect the hair cuttings and send them to a company called MatterofTrust. They use the hair to collect oil. So far they have collected 650,000 lbs of hair from the US and other participating countries. We would love to answer any questions you might have. Thanks, Annette and the Sweet200 crew

I grew up in Oak Cliff and when I went to Justin F. Kimball Hight School, I had a t-shirt that said “Oak Cliff: Love it or Leave”. I do like some of the suggestions above!

If we have the first seven-eleven store in oak cliff and if we have the location for the first top 40 format rock and roll station in oak cliff, KLIF, then I would say that Stevie Ray was right “The House is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’” There are more firsts in Oak Cliff just stay tuned.
